A reflection is created when reflected upon, when we think about it, and when light, as a carrier of information, hits the microscopic topography of a surface. This is an attempt to capture and freeze what the mirror has seen.

Photographs from field trips to Skallelv and Bjørnevatn in East-Finnmark druing a residency at Vadsø Kunstforening in May 2022. Text inspired by J.J. Cohen’s Stone: an ecology of the inhuman (2015), visits to Harvard Museum of Natural History and my grandmother’s university curriculum in geology from the mid-1900s.

(NO) Kunstnerboken Alminnelig tussmørke er et resultat av et kunstneropphold på Vadsø gjesteatelier mai 2022. Boken består av egne observasjoner og tekster blandet med tekster og sitat lånt fra en rekke forskjellige kilder som værmeldinger, filosofer og atlas blant annet. Målet er å forsøke å skape undring, nysgjerrighet og «omtanke» hos publikum ved å fremme forskjellige påstander, tanker og observasjoner. Verket er del av et større arbeid som utforsker vårt forhold til naturen og hvordan den fremstilles og forstås i dag.

Bokformatet gir muligheten til en direkte fysisk kontakt med publikum, derfor er materialevalg vesentlig for å formidle budskapet. Jeg benytter meg av kalkerpapir og plastomslaget på grunn av dets taktile egenskaper men også visuelle. De har en gjennomskinnelighet som gir hint om hva som skjuler seg under de neste sidene. Det er nesten transparent, og kan minne om lag på lag med sedimenter og argumenter. Ringpermholderen er valgt for å gi boken et tørt uttrykk med assosiasjoner til kontor og dokumentmapper. Det er slik vi i stor grad behandler vår natur i dag. Fonten som er brukt er relativt nøytral og linjeskift og tekststørrelse er brukt for å skape en rytmisk og poetisk flyt gjennom boken.

Boken er en samling korte tekster og sitat om fargen blå, hvallyder i universet og trær vi ikke kan se. Boken er en slags oppfølger til verket "cyanotypi av plast på kalkerpapir (bok)" fra 2020. Boken er på norsk på den ene siden og engelsk på den andre. Totalt 60 sider.

This is a riso-printed artist book originally from 2019. It is based on notes from a trip to Førdefjorden visiting the mountain Engebøfjellet, the possible location of a new open pit mine. Material from museum visits, talks with the mining company Nordic Mining and the local population of Vevring.

This edition was specially printed for Vevringutstillinga 2023 (The Vevring Exhibition 2023).  Riso printed at Blekksprutn risotrykkeri, Oslo. Edition of 50. Signed.

Røyksignal (Smoke Signals) is a book and video based on MSN-logs between two friends, one living in Oslo the other in Damascus, from June to September 2012. The book mainly unedited shows extracts from the private conversations, in a mix of Norwegian and French, between the two friends in the beginning of the Syrian civil war. It touches upon themes as divided as civil war, friendship, hope, nail polish, bombs and a dream about dancing ballet.  The fanzine was made with a Xerox printer and newspaper paper. This and the size refer to the homemade illegal A5 sized pamphlets that where circulating in Damascus during the escalation of the war.  The MSN-logs where saved in its entirety (more than 100 pages) from the moment I became unsure whether I would ever see my friend again. The start is thus missing.  I am now working with this material again, under the working title "Samtaler med Syria". This time all of the 100 pages + will be published.

The Microscopic Topography of the Surface (#2)

A series of 10 + 2 unique and handmade leporello books, 210cm in full length. Each book is made with one of the oldest photographical techniques, cyanotype, still in use today. A technique used to produce the first ever photobook in European history: Anna Atkins' "Photography of British Algea: Cyanotype Impressions" from 1843. This series is made up of cyanotypes of plastic on thin translucent paper, protected by a simple detachable cover. Translucent paper was developed for architects, and architects are also one of the main reasons cyanotype survived up until now. The translucent paper changes the motive constantly while one flickers through the book. Its leporello shape and odd number of pages removes the traditional start and end of a book. Together, the shape, technique and material create an ephemeral experience through fragility and temporality. The goal is to create a bodily, sensual and playful experience opening up for curiosity and daydreaming.
