Røyksignal (Smoke Signals) is a book and video based on MSN-logs between two friends, one living in Oslo the other in Damascus, from June to September 2012. The book mainly unedited shows extracts from the private conversations, in a mix of Norwegian and French, between the two friends in the beginning of the Syrian civil war. It touches upon themes as divided as civil war, friendship, hope, nail polish, bombs and a dream about dancing ballet. The fanzine was made with a Xerox printer and newspaper paper. This and the size refer to the homemade illegal A5 sized pamphlets that where circulating in Damascus during the escalation of the war. The MSN-logs where saved in its entirety (more than 100 pages) from the moment I became unsure whether I would ever see my friend again. The start is thus missing. I am now working with this material again, under the working title "Samtaler med Syria". This time all of the 100 pages + will be published.
