The benches represent the bereaved, who are grieving. They stand bent in a bridge, with holes in their stomachs. Can they carry anyone other than themselves if someone sits on them? An extraordinary weight on their bodies.Is the chapel experienced as spacious and receptive enough to grieve? Or do you feel under pressure, to stay sharp in the serious moment. Do you get to let the emotions you really feel free, in such a vulnerable and violent moment as a funeral is? A kind of claustrophobic experience, where you CAN cry, but preferably quietly and hidden... Shhh!Inspired by old toys and dolls from the 60s and 70s. The motifs are designed and illustrated by me.They also consist of identical hand-painted ornaments inspired by Norwegian «rosemaling», which are intended to symbolize how repetitive funeral traditions are for all of us. We all do them pretty similar. We perceive grief individually, at the same time as it is so general.The blue «rosemaling» is also a visual representation of the «BLUES» we feel inside us. How it swirls and moves in the body.

The artworks represents MEMORIES, BOTH the ones captured in photos AND the ones kept inside yourself. The blurry look represents how you visualize vague memories from long ago. Blurred. It also gives the works a more anonymous expression, which makes it easier to insert yourself in the memory. The people in the photos could technically be anyone, and perhaps a caregiver you know and love yourself. (Even though they are based on my own life and childhood).

Arvegods fra Dødsbo I

This artwork represents one of my first early confrontations with Death: Seeing a dead animal. This is a very normal way for childeren to experience death firsthand, especially when their own pets die.

I wanted to reflect on WHICH LIVES are WORTHY? Which lives are worth MOURNING? For some, this animal is completely insignificant, (and almost just trash) — but for others, this is a deeply loved being…

I have reflected a lot on this, related to much of the terrible things happening around the world… Both with the climate crisis, natural disasters and forest fires, where countless animals die, due to human factors and destruction…!

At the same time, how genocide and war give evil-minded people a view of humanity that is completely reprehensible. How they see PEOPLE as animals, with zero value… (?!) To murder all these innocent people, just because of their own hideous imaginations…

Mainly the idea for this work came to me, from memories of when I saw my own cat run over (when I was a young tween). It was a morbid sight, with the cat’s eyeballs hanging out of its fragile skull, and blood on the asphalt. The experience gave me a «reality check» about how the world works, and how we are all just bodies that will die someday — either peacefully or brutally...

The artwork is exhibited with an altar underneath, consisting of a handpainted glass plate and candles with wax paint. The candles quotes the Swedish folk song: «Vem kan segla förutan vind?». 

The piece is sold separately without the altar.

I’m (initially) very UNsuperstitious.I don’t believe in God, I don’t believe in astrology — and I don’t believe in spirits or ghosts.BUT, after close caregivers died — I started talking to them, as if they could still hear me. Mostly, because it was too unreal that they were gone forever.I started to wish ghosts were real, and that my deceased loved ones could still talk to me. Watch over me. Protect me.I ask if they’re proud of my achievements, and if they can make sure I’ll survive.I really… want to believe in ghosts.

You Raise Me Up

Wool- and woolblend yarn.
Cotton tuftingcloth. Lace fabric. Anti-slip felt.

I wanted to create a SOFT artwork of one of the HARDEST objects of a death: A graveSTONE. A grave- or headstone is for many, one of the most important places to mourn and visit their deceased loved ones. We offer flowers to it, we talk to it, touch it — while the rotting corpse lays meters beneath.

While walking in a graveyard, you’re standing on top of so many bodies. SOMEBODY deeply meaningful for someone, but seen in a bigger picture: Just one in a million of dead people. Historically, usually very insignificant, but for others — extremely valuable and loved.

The lilies on the grave is a symbol for death and they represent the event of one’s soul passing away from the body. Flowers are something often used in funerals, both as a honoring gift for the dead, but also a reminder of what it means to be a living being. All bodies, plants, animals… Will rot and decay, and it’s all natural.

Bedehusets Angel of Death

Photography screen printed on mirror. Textile work on figure cut plastic plate, as a frame. Wooden, plastic and wax pearls.

Inspired by ghost photography and 80s retro silhouette celebrity (coke) mirrors.

Based on my own deep wishes that those I love will never completely disappear…
I honestly WANT to be haunted, as long as it’s someone I care about.

The white lacy fabrics represents something soft and reflective, and also the the cliché stereotype that ghosts cover up in white fabrics. The pearls are there for a vintage and haunting look, at the same time they symbolize femininity and memories of loved ones.

I want the art work to look transparent and reflective, like a ghost.

The mirror is also there to (cliché enough as it is) — make you look into yourself.

The surface is carefully sculpted, shaved and carved. 
Mostly wool yarn, with some wool blend.

Wool- and woolblend yarn, wooden plates in pine and MDF, polyester fringes, handles in stainless steel, edging band, string, plastic edging, etc.

Currently In My Resting Era

It is handmade and designed by me, using AK-I, AK-II and AK-III tufting guns. Both cut- and loop pile. The surface of the rug has different pile heights and textures, and is carefully trimmed, carved and sculpted.

The yarn is 100% wool and some wool-blend. 

Made as ECO-friendly as possible!

The frames are handmade of pinewood lists and board, stained with dark born interior stain. Signed by me, and also branded with logo. Serial number included. Metal hanging (on all sides). -- So you can decide what direction you like the most
