A Blend of Geometric Precision and Organic Inspiration

Solveig Bergene at her Studio

We recently had the pleasure of visiting Solveig Bergene, a remarkable artist whose works are rich in detail and a captivating blend of figurative and abstract elements. Bergene has also recommended fellow artists on Atelie, highlighting the diverse talent on the platform.

Her dynamic and intricate visual world seamlessly merges the figurative with the abstract, forming a network of geometric and symmetrical pattern surfaces. Using tools like rulers, compasses, and delicate layers of watercolor, Bergene creates drawings with a fascinating organic logic.

"I work with watercolor and colored pencil on large formats, and handmade artist books. I build up the images with a geometric base drawing and layers of watercolor and colored pencil. I am inspired by motifs from nature, but also by ornamentation and patterns. Currently, I am preparing for an exhibition at Kunstgarasjen in Bergen this September, where I will showcase new works," says Solveig Bergene.

Solveig Bergene’s Artistic Recommendations on Atelie

Solveig Bergene is also an avid supporter of her fellow artists. Here are some artists she recommends on Atelie:

Amalie Vestergaard Olsen
"I really appreciate her entire body of work, especially her spatial installations and sculptures. She also has some very amusing ceramic sculptures on the Atelie app in a smaller format. I also admire how she uses titles, such as in one of her latest projects 'Revesøvn.'"

Matilda Höög
"She works across a wide range of mediums, from film to painting and pyrography. I particularly like the images she has made with wool. They have an intriguing tactile quality and function almost as a blend of painting and textile art."

Bjørn Bjarre
"I am particularly fond of his dry pastel drawings from the 'Solaris' series, where the pigment has a luminous quality. I also appreciate how he incorporates humor and science fiction references into his work."
