Art Recommendations

We’ve invited special guests from our community to share the artworks they dream of owning. This time, Tobias Mathiasen shares his art recommendations.

Tobias is a Partner at publicly-listed Katalysen, Europe’s investment catalyst. Over the last 15 years, Tobias has been developing startups from various roles: as founder in Sweden, consultant in Ireland, banker in Hong Kong, and investor in the Nordics. Over the years, Tobias has advised a variety of startups on topics ranging from fundraising, to long-term strategy, to service design, and everything in between.

In 2023, Tobias co-founded SKB.vc to help strengthen the Europe-Japan bridge and inject more global vision and experience into the Japanese startup ecosystem. He loves contrasts and transformation, in all forums, from gardens to research labs.

Taru Kallio - To remember, 2022, oil painting on canvas, 50 × 70 cm

"A burst of red, almost defiant against the deep brown background, the flower commands attention. Not delicate, but bold and alive. Its petals, loose and expressive, refuse perfect form, thriving instead in raw, organic movement. Shadows stretch long and dark, framing the moment where life meets stillness. I feel peaceful."—Tobias Mathiasen

Anne Siv Falkenberg Pedersen - Surf drawing, 2024, ink and markers on 640gr. watercolour paper, 56 × 76 cm

"A surge of color, pulsing like energy captured mid-motion, ripples outward from an unseen core. Electric blues and deep purples bleed into neon pinks and fiery reds, layering over one another like the shifting wavelengths of a distorted signal. The edges vibrate, fringed with jagged strokes that refuse to settle, pushing outward, expanding. I feel energized."—Tobias Mathiasen

Jens Jørgen Krogsveen - Landskap høst, 2023 oil on linen, 60 × 80cm

"A clash of earth and sky, where color shapes the landscape more than form ever could. The deep blue stretches wide, an endless expanse of calm, yet it is not still. It presses forward, curving against the land, demanding space. The shoreline, bold and unmoving, answers in thick, textured strokes of gold, green, and red, twisting into one another like roots seeking depth. I feel free."—Tobias Mathiasen

Bodil Drange Pedersen - Folldal #2, 2022, dry pastel on Fabriano printmaking paper 280 gsm, 28 × 50cm

"The contrast."—Tobias Mathiasen
