Bjørn Bjarre - Gaia
We are excited to present Bjørn Bjarre’s latest silkscreen print, Gaia—inspired by Earth’s ecosystems and the interconnectedness of all living things. Through vibrant colors and abstract forms, the piece invites viewers to reflect on humanity’s impact on the planet’s delicate balance and our role in its future.
The artwork is inspired by James Lovelock’s Gaia Hypothesis: The theory of our planet as a self-regulating system where organisms and their environments work symbiotically to sustain life. With vibrant colors and abstract forms, Gaia invites the viewer to reflect on humanity’s place in this system and the consequences of disrupting it.

The silkscreen print was recently featured in the exhibition Abstrakt Følelse + Solaris = Gaia at Norske Grafikere, alongside several other graphical works and watercolors, many of which were acquired by Oslo Kommune’s art collection.
Gaia is as much a visual expression as it is a philosophical inquiry. The artwork visualizes a harmonious tension between forms resembling sky, ocean, land, fish, organic lifeforms and a human face. By arranging these forms into an accessible and decorative image, Bjarre creates a work that is both intellectually and visually engaging.
Silkscreen printing is a graphic technique where ink is pressed through a fine-mesh screen stretched over a frame, with the design built in four layers, one color at a time. The silkscreen was produced by Bjørn Bjarre and Joakim Thorendal at Fellesverkstedet in Oslo.
