Oil on canvas This painting is part of an irregular diptych with the other part being called "The face of Joy". When first exhibited it was displayed on either side of another large painting called "Peloton" thus forming an and alter like composition and an association to medieval idol paintings. The face of sorrow is a portrait of Lance Armstrong after one of his many falsly achieved victories. I wanted the background to be a perfect shade of blue to reflect his metiuclously crafted perfect appearance. The painting is in stark contrast with its counterpart.
