Language is inscribed in life itself. Consciousness arises when a split is introduced into this process. With the emergence of such a division—or a point of view—something is simultaneously concealed and rendered inaccessible. This point, a kind of blind spot within language, forms the basis of the self-aware subject: an entity capable of asking questions and making independent choices. In this sense, the subject can be described as language speaking to itself.
