Acrylic on canvas The first artwork, based on the story of a classic Chinese fairy tale "The Magic Brush",This piece speaks to the power of creation and innovation, reminding us of our responsibility towards using our capabilities for the greater good, especially in the context of environmental stewardship. It also introduces a critical reflection on the contemporary societal attitude of "The people who eat melons" – a Chinese term symbolizing the passive onlookers in society who remain indifferent and uninvolved in pressing issues. At the center, a pit threatens to engulf penguins within it, with clouds transforming into snow, symbolizing environmental catastrophe. While the protagonist penguin – "Ma Liang" – is depicted crafting an enormous ladder to rescue those trapped, the surrounding penguins represent a spectrum of societal responses: from those attempting to aid, to whisperers on the sidelines, and the indifferent bystanders merely observing.
