Karen Kviltu Lidal

Tekstil, tegning, skulptur, installasjon

Myntgata 2, 0151 Oslo, Norge

In her practice, Karen Kviltu Lidal weaves, draws, makes textile sculptures and video performance where she maps out, traces, documents and displaces architecture and spaces. With an interest in the interplay between logic and bodily experience, the execution of the projects through craft and the work of the body is important. Often using her own body as scale, Lidal investigates built structures; how the city and architecture relate to the human body, and how they hold connections to gender, power and the social sphere.

Karen Kviltu Lidal (b. 1979) lives and works in Oslo and Berlin. She completed her MA at Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO) in 2008. Previous solo presentations include "My Architecture" in Kunstnerforbundet, "Bauen Wohnen Denken" in Tegnerforbundet and "The Body and the Map" in Moss kunstforening. Group shows among others in North Norwegian Art Centre, Sørlandet kunstmuseum, Kunstnernes hus, Soft and The National Museum in Oslo. Lidal’s work is included in the collection of the National Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, Trondheim and KODE, Bergen.
