MARENGO (meditation on 20,000 horses killed at the Battle of Waterloo) Oil on canvas Project site: https://marengoyngvarlarsen.tumblr.com This series of paintings is under development and today consists of more than fifty paintings. The painting title refers to Napoleon's horse called MARENGO. Potentially, this series could be 20,000 paintings, one painting for each horse killed or slaughtered during the Battle of Waterloo. The motif is taken from a photo of a horse with drawings around its eyes that make it look as if it is crying. The profile of the horse is transferred to the canvas using a stencil, this means that the composition is the same, but painted differently. Installation view: Markus Berndmoes studio
