This book is a catalogue from my exhibition at Hos_Arne in 2022 consisting of 360 pages of artwork, tekst and pictures. The exhibition is based on sketches from sketchbooks Ole Fredrik Hvidsten made during the period of coronavirus in 2021. They are raw sketches based on observations and thoughts made during this strange time in society. A period where freedom was curtailed, where many were socially isolated and many felt a form of hopelessness and at times fear. There were periods when you thought that now this is over, now things will get better, austerity measures were eased, only to experience that rules were tightened again. Hence the title ”It didn’t end” The sketches are directly transferred from these sketchbooks to larger canvas. Ole Fredrik Hvidsten has changed the raw material as little as possible, even if it is tempting in such a process. There is something uncontrolled and intuitive about it and sketching freely without having as an ulterior motive that there should be some form of result. In total, over a hundred sketches from 2021 have been transferred to a larger canvas as a reflection on what we went through as a collective society and as individuals in 2021 and they will be shown at Arne’s. The exhibition is a continuation of the exhibition ”It never ends” from January 2022, which was a direct expression of the situation with opening and closing and the coronavirus we were in at the time. Sketching for Ole Fredrik, who is primarily an illustrator, involves a large degree of freedom. He also associates art with freedom. It’s just as if the sketch is completely real, it’s the thought and the power directly transferred on paper without an intermediary. The title of this exhibition ”it didn’t end” is more complex than it seems, it’s not just about all the waiting we went through before the pandemic got out of hand, but perhaps we also carry with us a form of post-traumatic corona syndrome. If not everyone saw at least some of us. And in that respect it certainly did not pass. For Ole Fredrik, the titles are an important part of the work, they add an extra dimension. In the small gallery you get the feeling of walking straight into Ole Fredrik’s workroom while he is in process. Here we find sketches, finished small illustrations and transferred sketches for larger paintings close together. In the large gallery there is more air between the works, one of the works floats and in its power helps to define the room. On two of the podiums, the original sketch is placed in front of the painting. In the living room, three works are placed in a homely environment. Anne Weyer-Larsen
