Jeg er tekstilkunstner som jobber med forskjellige teknikker, men mest med jacquard vev. Som kunstner undersøker jeg tekstil som materiale og reflekterer over dens rolle i historien: noen ganger den personlige men også den globale. Jeg er også opptatt av konstruksjon og prøver å pushe grenser på hva som er mulig å få til på den industrielle vevstolen. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am working with textiles: digital jacquard weave, embroidery, installations and collage. As an artist, I discuss the modernization of textile production and handwork's position in our time. Since 2013 I work mostly with a digital jacquard weave: the technique that unites the old way of thinking woven surface on, with the new digital technology. The main aspect that I question with my work is how we experience and perceive our physical surroundings. We take our senses for granted and believe they can describe the world as it is. Therein, I believe, lies a big restriction. There is this special moment: I think I see one thing, but it appears to be something else. The Jacquard loom allows me to explore these issues. I have to balance: to find ways to break up the repetition while challenging pattern. Technically, I make use of opposites: chaos and rhythm pattern and fracture. www.kristina-aas.com
